Is USPS Open on Good Friday?

Yes. In all 50 states, post offices are normally open on Good Friday, and USPS delivers mail and packages as it does on any other Friday. Good Friday isn't a federal holiday, and USPS closes its facilities on federal holidays. The next Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, is March 26, 2027.

Why some people think the mail stops

Good Friday is a day off in some places, just not at the post office. The New York Stock Exchange closes for it, and March 26, 2027 is on the NYSE holiday calendar. Some states also give their own employees the day off or the option to take it. In Texas, for example, Good Friday is an optional holiday for state employees.

Those closures cover markets and state agencies, not the Postal Service. Good Friday isn't on the federal holiday list that the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) publishes for 2026 or 2027. Puerto Rico is the one place to check first: USPS has closed post offices there for Good Friday before, including in 2020. For any single location, USPS's Find a Post Office tool shows its hours.

UPS and FedEx on Good Friday

For Good Friday 2026 (April 3), UPS listed normal pickup and delivery, with The UPS Store locations open. FedEx listed modified service that day: early on-call pickups and early drop box pickups in some areas, and some drop boxes closed. Each carrier sets its holiday hours every year, and 2027 may differ, so check both holiday pages before March 26, 2027, especially if you rely on a late FedEx pickup or a drop box.

Easter weekend

Saturday, March 27, 2027 is a regular delivery day. USPS delivers Monday through Saturday and aims to finish by 5 p.m. local time. For more on that, see when USPS mail stops arriving each day.

Easter Sunday works like any other Sunday at USPS. There's no regular mail delivery, and USPS says Priority Mail Express and Amazon parcels are the only mail it delivers on Sundays. If you ship orders yourself

• Keep shipping USPS orders on Good Friday. Outside Puerto Rico, post offices and USPS pickups normally run as they do on any Friday, so there's no reason to pause those orders or warn customers about a USPS holiday delay.
• If you ship with UPS or FedEx, check that carrier's 2027 holiday schedule the week before. In 2026, FedEx ran early pickups and closed some drop boxes in some areas on Good Friday, and UPS had no pickup or delivery on Easter Sunday.

Federal holidays in 2027

USPS closes on federal holidays, but it hasn't posted its 2027 holiday notices yet. Until it does, OPM's 2027 calendar is the best guide. These are the federal holidays, with the days most federal employees get off:

• New Year's Day: Friday, January 1
• Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.: Monday, January 18
• Washington's Birthday: Monday, February 15
• Memorial Day: Monday, May 31 (the next federal holiday after Good Friday)
• Juneteenth: Saturday, June 19 (most federal employees get Friday, June 18 off)
• Independence Day: Sunday, July 4 (most federal employees get Monday, July 5 off)
• Labor Day: Monday, September 6
• Columbus Day: Monday, October 11
• Veterans Day: Thursday, November 11
• Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, November 25
• Christmas Day: Saturday, December 25 (most federal employees get Friday, December 24 off)

Those observed days are OPM's, not a USPS schedule. When Independence Day fell on a Saturday in 2026, OPM moved the federal day off to Friday, July 3, but post offices stayed open and delivered as normal that Friday and closed on Saturday, July 4. So for Juneteenth and Christmas 2027, which both fall on a Saturday, don't assume USPS closes the Friday before. USPS usually posts a newsroom notice a week or two before each holiday that says which day it closes.
